Life IS hard as fuck sometimes. I know without words exactly how you feel. I hate so much of what “is”, but I have to find a way to change as much of the wrong I see as possible. That means I, WE have to stay here in this world. We may be a couple of that small group of individuals who will be needed to rebuild “a world” after the pandemic, hatred and stupidity have run their course. We will probably see worse then today’s madness on the way, but it is mandatory that we remain to fight.
I’ve come to understand that with time on the planet comes a wisdom that cannot be relayed in a book. A wisdom that is not part of any scholastic curriculum. A wisdom that you and I have acquired just by living and viewing this life through slightly cracked lenses. Those cracked lenses have allowed us to sometimes see “the things behind the things”. We have both been blessed/cursed with that unique madness that makes us give a shit about whether things are truly right or truly wrong.
PERHAPS NOW IS THE TIME WE “MAKE PLAIN” TO AS MANY AS WE CAN THE MADNESS THAT SUGAR-COATS THIS WORLD’S MADNESS.
Now I know, both you and I are getting older. We don’t have a bully pulpit, we don’t have a platform. Damn, we don’t even have a real soapbox to stand on, but I feel in my “essence” that there is work we have to do. To do that work demands that we begin to dictate the terms of how we engage with the world around us … I repeat … To do that work demands that we begin to dictate the terms of how we engage with the world around us.
For the record, let me say something I’ve been aware of for a while. What I know is that there is no way that you and I can fundamentally change anything if we approach this world using this world’s views and beliefs. In fact, the reason I’ve been such an outsider all my life is because I’ve acquiesced to “fitting in” rather than turning my back on “their” world. I think you are the only person I love who understands that last sentence.
You and I are disconnected because we are tied to the world’s we have allowed to be built around us.
What’s important to you? Now, what is truly important to you?! There is a verse from the Christian Bible that rings true:
And so the Lord says, “You must leave them and separate yourselves from them. Have nothing to do with what is unclean, and I will accept you.
I am not quoting that as a religious point, but as common sense. For me, I have always looked for that place, “separate”. You are the only person I have known in my entire life who I could live with in that “separate” place … truly the only person … everything else has been an “accommodation”.
You understand art. Art pulls from the imagination new realities; art “makes plain” what is hidden right in front of our faces; art can expand or destroy “conventional” and replace it with new beauty, clarity.
So …..
Our assignment, you and me, is to make a new world. Forget all the usual excuses, all the usual reasons why not … let’s make a new world!
